Below in information on restaurants that we've visited, that might be useful as a starting point for planning your trip, but is not a complete list of Kauai's restaurants! We try to keep the facts as accurate as possible, and offer some opinions which are our own - your own experiences may vary. :)

Good food, nice environment. We enjoy sitting at the pizza / salad bar and watching the chefs while we eat.
Todd Rundgren's restaurant (song, Hello it’s me). Good restaurant, if you are a porkchop fan as they have the best Macadamia nut pork chop! They have other things as well (good salad’s, grilled fish) but that’s the best dish.
Inside the gas station at the Princeville Center, you might feel a bit suspicious about eating here, but the food is quite good! They have a real kitchen, and make pizzas, burgers, and burritos. Our favorite is their calzones. They are also open for breakfast. No dine in options, but you can eat on their patio overlooking the Princeville Center parking lot (we recommend takeout).
Best restaurant on island in our opinion but a bit expensive. Tapa style (small side dishes) restaurant and everything on the menu is awesome. A great way to sample a few things as each person will get to order 2-3 dishes.
Casual restaurant. The food is good but the entertainment (Hawaiian Mike) is better. They have good pizza’s and salads with grilled fish or chix. Monday is when Hawaiian Mike plays and you’ll need to get there by 5:45 or so, fun restaurant and was in the movie The Descendants. We have not tried the luau (yet!).
Great casual restaurant on the Hanalei River. Good atmosphere and excellent food, with fresh fish, sushi, salads, and steak. Note that The Dolphin also has a fish market open daily 10am - 7pm if you want to purchase fresh fish to cook yourself.
Fun restaurant with good food (ramen and noodle with combinations of protein) and great views. The best views of the Napali Coast and 700-foot waterfalls after a rain. Also nice cocktails, check out the views in back and sit around the firepit!
Sports bar, good burgers and salads, inexpensive, fun atmosphere. We eat here regularly.
Very small casual restaurant with great seafood. Mostly known for it’s fresh fish but also has some very good salads and other specials. Very intimate atmosphere sitting on the porch or in the small cottage dining room. Reservations are recommended for groups larger than two people, otherwise it’s best to show up right when they open to try to get a table.
Our favorite local coffee shop, they have a full breakfast menu as well as Tambor Acai bowls, smoothies, and grab & go items for hikes or picnics at the beach.
Casual restaurant with incredibly tender chicken along with burgers, ribs, tacos, salads and more. Locations also in Kapa’a and Waimea.
Our "go to" restaurant in Kapa'a, excllent grilled fish, HUGE salads, nice view overlooking downtown Kapa'a.
Literally on the beach! Good food and drinks, live music nightly 5pm - 8:30pm. They have some games on the beach and grass that you can play while you wait for food or before you eat. Nice size plates and great mai tai’s.
Casual restaurant with incredibly tender chicken along with burgers, ribs, tacos, salads and more. Locations also in Hanalei and Waimea.
Expensive restaurant on the south shore set in an old style plantation house with panoramic views. In our opinion the quality of the food and service is worth the high prices. Merriman's has live music Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM.
Awesome view on the edge of a grassy area where the waves crash over the wall and rocks on beach below. Great grilled fish and many options, along with steak and salads and other casual fare. A great restaurant if you have a late flight out of Lihue and looking for that last great experience on Kauai before going home!
Good food and great location - literally steps to the most popular beach on the south shore. Upstairs has open air dining overlooking the beach with ocean views.
Our favorite restaurant in Lihue, only five minutes from the airport. Located on the beach, watch surfers while you dine. Beautiful vies, great place to soak in Kauai right after landing or just before departing. Our favorite Sunday brunch on the island.
